Special Interests
During my residency at KEM Hospital in General Surgery and later at Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre in Surgical Gastroenterology, Mumbai, I had the privilege of working with eminent doctors and teachers like Professor R.D. Bapat, Professor A.N. Supe, and Dr. P. Jagannath. They instilled in me a deep interest in GI Surgery.
At Sir Gangaram Hospital, I had the exclusive opportunity to work with stalwarts like Prof. S. Nundy, Dr. A. Soin, and Dr. Adarsh Choudhary. In addition to gaining experience in the entire spectrum of GI surgery cases, I actively participated in the Live Donor Liver Transplantation programme, attending nearly 50 hepatic transplantations.
My tenure at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, as a Senior Fellow and later as a Lecturer, was both fascinating and enlightening. It gave me thorough exposure to all major and complex GI oncosurgery cases. Working closely with Dr. Parul Shukla and Dr. Shailesh Shrikhande helped me refine my surgical skills, gain clinical confidence, and prepare for handling complex cases independently.
As one of the first candidates to complete the DNB Surgical Gastroenterology course in India — at only the second institute accredited for this program — I was motivated to further pursue my professional interests in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplantation.
At Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital, Catholic University of Korea, a 1200-bedded high-volume transplant centre, I was privileged to train under Professor Young Kyoung You. The institution has a remarkable track record of more than 600 liver transplants since 1989, and my time there significantly enhanced my expertise in hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgery.
Back in India, I trained in Living Donor Liver Transplantation under Professor A.S. Soin at Medanta, one of the country’s premier institutes performing more than 250 LDLTs annually. This gave me comprehensive exposure to this demanding procedure as well as other complex hepatobiliary surgeries. My independent work at Jupiter Hospital (2012–2014) further strengthened my confidence and maturity as an HPB surgeon.
Working at Global Hospitals, Mumbai, was another enriching phase, where I witnessed a young, hardworking team build a strong foundation. Later, under the mentorship of Professor Mohamed Rela at both Global Hospital and the Rela Institute & Medical Centre, Chennai, I had the privilege to learn from his unparalleled surgical skills and deep clinical understanding of liver diseases — an experience that has been nothing short of transformative.
Since March 2022, I have been leading the Department of HPB & Liver Transplantation at Jupiter Group of Hospitals. This leadership role has been immensely rewarding, as our team has already achieved excellent outcomes in liver transplantation within a short span of time.
With liver diseases on the rise in India, and the increasing demand for complex HPB surgeries and liver transplantation, I believe that working at your esteemed institute will allow me to contribute to a larger patient population in need, while also fulfilling my professional commitment to serve the community.
